Beyond Deployment: The Need for Ongoing AI-SOC Training

Essential Insights

  1. Limitations of Pre-Trained AI-SOC: Pre-trained AI models struggle with real-world nuances, leading to false positives and overlooked threats as they rely on outdated data without learning from operational adjustments.

  2. Importance of Feedback Loops: Continuous feedback from analysts transforms a static AI model into an adaptive system that learns from real-time decisions, enhances accuracy, and reduces false positives significantly.

  3. Operational Efficiency Gains: Implementing a continuous learning SOC can free over 40 hours per week for analysts, speed up investigations by up to 61%, and improve mean time to resolution (MTTR) by 40-60%, creating a more efficient security operation.

  4. Empowering Analysts and Building Trust: The integration of feedback and transparency ensures analysts see the impact of their corrections, fostering trust and engagement, which enhances the overall effectiveness of the AI-SOC system.

Why Pre-Trained AI Isn’t Enough

Organizations invest heavily in AI-SOC systems, believing deployment marks the end of the journey. Unfortunately, this perspective overlooks a crucial reality: pre-trained AI platforms often lack the adaptability needed in real-world situations. They operate on historical data and fixed models, highlighting only familiar threats. When an organization’s environment changes, these static models falter. They misclassify normal activity as threats, leading to a surge in false positives that drain resources and chip away at trust.

Analysts end up playing catch-up, struggling to correct the system’s mistakes while handling genuine alerts. Each manual adjustment is a temporary fix. Without a feedback mechanism, the model remains oblivious to ongoing developments in the organization’s workflow. As cyber threats evolve, a static model cannot keep pace; it becomes a bottleneck rather than a support. Thus, organizations must understand that training their AI-SOC doesn’t merely end at deployment—it must continue as long as the system is in use.

What Feedback Loops Look Like in the SOC

Effective feedback loops are the lifeblood of a functioning AI-SOC. First, analysts regularly document their decisions, flagging alerts, and correcting false positives. This provides a valuable feedback loop that nourishes the AI’s learning process. The system must capture this ongoing feedback and integrate it to refine its algorithms. When analysts feed decisions back into the system, they enable it to recognize patterns specific to their organization, vastly enhancing its operational relevance.

Moreover, transparency in these loops is essential. Analysts need to see that their corrections lead to meaningful changes in the AI’s behavior. When they lack visibility, engagement wanes, and the cycle of feedback breaks down. For organizations, this means lost opportunities for improving detection rates and lowering false positives. By fostering a seamless connection between human decisions and machine learning, organizations can build a more robust and effective AI-SOC.
