Attackers often smuggle malicious SQL statements through HTTP headers, enabling them to bypass security controls and gain unauthorized access, which can lead to data theft, malware deployment, or lateral network movement.

The reason this happened is primarily due to the software’s failure to properly sanitize user input, making it susceptible to SQL injection. Fortinet’s security team discovered the flaw internally and disclosed it on February 6, 2026. Currently, this vulnerability affects organizations using version 7.4.4, but upgrading to version 7.4.5 offers the best protection. Security experts warn that attackers are actively scanning for vulnerable servers and that vigilance is crucial; organizations should monitor network logs for suspicious HTTP requests, especially those containing abnormal characters or SQL commands.
