Essential Insights

  1. ErrTraffic is a rapidly evolving cybercrime tool that injects malicious JavaScript into compromised websites, leveraging fake verification screens resembling trusted services to prompt victims to execute hidden PowerShell commands.
  2. Built on social engineering tactics and concealing its command infrastructure within Polygon blockchain smart contracts, ErrTraffic enables threat actors to rotate its control servers anonymously, complicating detection efforts.
  3. The framework is offered as Malware-as-a-Service, with escalating pricing, and exploits multiple malware payloads, targeting infected WordPress sites and spread via malvertising, impersonating AI platforms like ChatGPT.
  4. Once inside, attackers deploy persistent backdoors (e.g., session-manager.php), harvest credentials, exfiltrate data, and maintain stealth by monitoring for security tools, emphasizing the need for vigilant endpoint and WordPress security practices.

Key Challenge

ErrTraffic, a rapidly expanding cybercrime tool, emerged in late 2025, evolving into a Malware-as-a-Service platform that criminals can rent to launch attacks. It operates by injecting malicious JavaScript into compromised WordPress websites; when users visit these sites, they encounter fake verification screens resembling trusted services like Google reCAPTCHA or Cloudflare Turnstile. Prompted to press a keyboard shortcut under the illusion of a routine security check, victims inadvertently trigger PowerShell commands that are secretly stored on their machines, leading to the download and execution of various malicious payloads, such as info stealers or remote access tools. The attackers behind ErrTraffic, known by aliases like LenAI, utilize sophisticated techniques like EtherHiding—concealing their control infrastructure within Polygon blockchain smart contracts—to evade detection and enable infrastructure rotation. Notably, this framework is sold at escalating prices within underground forums and via Telegram, reflecting its reputation for effectiveness. Multiple clusters, called “Analytics” and “Beer,” operate different malware families, often infecting the same sites simultaneously, which indicates active competition among cybercriminal groups. Additionally, the malware exploits fake AI sites like Google Antigravity and ChatGPT to extend its reach, spreading through malvertising campaigns and compromising a wide range of targets, including individual users and organizations. Reported by cybersecurity analysts at Sekoia, ErrTraffic’s design and operational complexity highlight the ongoing evolution of cyber threats that blend social engineering, blockchain concealment, and modular malware deployment, posing significant challenges for defenders aiming to detect and disrupt these clandestine operations.

Potential Risks

The issue ‘ErrTraffic MaaS Uses Fake reCAPTCHA and Cloudflare Turnstile Lures to Execute PowerShell Commands’ can severely threaten your business’s security. Hackers exploit easily duped reCAPTCHA and Turnstile systems to trick your website into executing malicious PowerShell commands. This vulnerability allows cybercriminals to gain unauthorized access, manipulate systems, or launch devastating cyberattacks. As a result, your business risks data breaches, operational disruptions, and loss of customer trust. Ultimately, this escalates financial damages and damages your reputation. Therefore, without proper protection, any business becomes vulnerable to these deceptive tactics, highlighting the urgent need for robust security measures.

Possible Action Plan

Prompt for prompt: Writing at 12th grade reading level, with very high perplexity and very high burstiness in a professional yet explanatory tone based on NIST CSF, without a heading, providing a very short lead-in statement emphasizing the importance of timely remediation specifically for the issue titled ‘ErrTraffic MaaS Uses Fake reCAPTCHA and Cloudflare Turnstile Lures to Execute PowerShell Commands,’ followed by concise, 2-3 word section headings and a list of suitable mitigation and remediation steps.

When an organization encounters deceptive traffic such as fake reCAPTCHA and Cloudflare turnstile lures used to execute malicious PowerShell commands, swift action becomes crucial. Delayed responses can lead to widespread compromise, data breaches, and erosion of trust, making rapid, targeted remediation essential to contain damage and restore security integrity.
