Top Highlights

  1. Global weekly cyberattacks increased by 10% month-on-month, with ransomware groups like The Gentlemen and LockBit rapidly scaling their operations, causing a significant rise in attack volumes.
  2. Education, government, and telecommunications sectors remain the most targeted industries globally, with attacks leveraging open networks, device turnover, and weak security defenses.
  3. GenAI prompts pose a high risk of sensitive data leakage, affecting 85% of organizations that use these tools, with healthcare and telecom sectors exhibiting the highest exposure rates.

Threat, Attack Techniques, and Targets

In June 2026, Check Point Research reported a rise in cyber attacks worldwide. Of particular concern is the increase in ransomware activity. Ransomware attacks grew by 33% compared to June 2025. Business services were the most targeted industry, making up 31% of attacks. Other frequent targets included government, healthcare, and telecommunications sectors.

Attackers are using advanced techniques to infect their targets. They maintain a broad reach across many countries and industries. New ransomware groups, like The Gentlemen, are rising quickly. This group now leads in attack volume, responsible for 17% of ransomware attacks. Attackers also continue to use ransomware-as-a-service models. They exploit open networks, weak security, and vulnerable AI workflows. The growing threats highlight the need for stronger prevention methods before attacks happen.

Impact, Security Implications, and Remediation Guidance

The increase in ransomware and cyber attacks has serious consequences. Businesses face operational disruption, data theft, and financial loss. The rise in attacks on critical sectors like government and energy increases national security risks. The emergence of new ransomware groups indicates attackers are becoming more organized and adaptable.

To better defend against these threats, organizations should seek to strengthen their security posture. Although specific remediation steps are not provided in this report, organizations are advised to consult their security vendors or relevant authorities for tailored guidance. Implementing AI-driven, prevention-first security measures can help protect networks, users, and data. Continuous monitoring and prompt updates to security practices are also critical to reduce vulnerabilities.
