Meta Unveils New Anti-Scam Tools for WhatsApp, Facebook, and Messenger

For instance, WhatsApp now issues behavioral alerts when it detects suspicious device linking attempts, such as fake QR codes, to thwart unauthorized account access. Similarly, Facebook tests warning systems for suspicious friend requests, alerting users to accounts with unusual activity or suspicious signals. Messenger employs sophisticated algorithms to detect common scam patterns, such as fake job offers, and warns users about suspicious chats.

These measures came in response to increasing online scams and are reported by Meta itself as part of their efforts to protect users worldwide. In 2025 alone, Meta removed over 159 million scam ads globally, including more than 12 million in India, and dismantled nearly 11 million scam-related accounts, such as those linked to cryptocurrency fraud and fake arrest schemes. Additionally, the company is expanding its advertiser verification program to ensure authentic advertising and is partnering with organizations like India’s I4C and SEBI to educate users about online threats through campaigns like “Scams se Bacho.” Overall, these initiatives highlight Meta’s commitment to securing its ecosystem and safeguarding its billions of users.
