The Forescout 2026 H1 Threat Review reported a major rise in cyber threats. Over 37,000 vulnerabilities were found in the first six months of the year. This is a 51% increase from the previous year. Many of these vulnerabilities, more than half, are rated as high or critical. Ransomware attacks also went up by 25%, with 4,544 incidents, or about 25 attacks daily.

Threat actors, including state-sponsored groups from China, Russia, and Iran, are using more AI tools. They are speeding up attacks and making them more complex. These attackers focus on networks, operational technology, Internet of Things (IoT), and Medical IoT (IoMT) devices. These connected devices often have less security. Researchers also see more software supply chain attacks, which can affect many businesses. Iranian actors are mixing espionage, ransomware, and attacks on critical infrastructure. This blending makes it harder to tell apart different types of threat groups.

Impact, Security Implications, and Remediation Guidance

The rise of AI in cyberattacks causes serious concerns. AI makes attacks faster and larger in scale. Attackers can find and exploit vulnerabilities more quickly than defenders can fix them. This situation increases risks, especially for critical infrastructure and organizations during geopolitical conflicts. The report emphasizes that many vulnerable assets are old or unpatched, adding more danger. It also points out that many security gaps exist in unmanaged and connected devices such as IoT and industrial technology.

Security teams should improve their awareness of all connected assets. They need to prioritize fixing the most risky systems and strengthen network segments. Response times should be faster to contain threats early. Because of the evolving threat landscape, the report recommends that organizations seek guidance from their security vendors or relevant authorities for detailed remediation strategies.
