Top Highlights

  1. CISA urges immediate updates to Ivanti Connect Secure appliances due to an actively exploited CVE-2026-104935 vulnerability allowing remote unauthenticated command execution.
  2. The flaw, impacting multiple ICS versions, is being actively exploited by threat actors for credential theft and data exfiltration.
  3. Organizations are advised to conduct forensic analysis and follow specific mitigation steps, including backups, system resets, and credential purging.
  4. Threat actors from Singapore and the U.S. are testing exploit payloads, with further weaponization expected, highlighting urgent cybersecurity risks.

CISA Urges Immediate Updates to Protect Against Exploits

Recently, the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) issued a critical warning. Organizations must urgently update their Ivanti Connect Secure (ICS) appliances. This step is vital because of a serious security flaw recently disclosed. The vulnerability, known as CVE-2026-104935, has a high severity score of 8.6 out of 10. It affects several ICS versions, including 25.1.1.1 and earlier, 25.1.2.2 and earlier, and 22.8R2.4 and earlier. This flaw allows hackers to bypass authentication remotely and execute commands without permission. According to CISA, cybercriminals are actively exploiting this weakness. They use it to steal credentials and extract data from affected systems. Because of these risks, FCEB agencies must have the flaw fixed by October 16, 2026. CISA recommends several steps for organizations to protect their systems, including reviewing Ivanti’s guidance for updates and patches. The agency emphasizes that remaining on outdated versions, particularly version 22.8, which reaches end-of-life on January 31, 2027, increases vulnerability.

Widespread Attack Attempts Signal Growing Threats

Meanwhile, cybersecurity firm Previdian reports that it has logged 105 attempted exploits targeting its honeypot sensors as of October 14, 2026. These attack attempts originate from 50 unique IP addresses, mainly from Singapore and the U.S. Some of these IPs include 216.73.160.59, 216.73.160.61, and 45.8.19.111. The attackers are using a method involving the X-DSCGI-PATH header to reach internal CGI handlers. They upload Perl scripts disguised as ZIP files, which reveal whether remote code execution succeeds. At this stage, the payloads mainly test for the exploit’s effectiveness. Experts warn that more malicious activity could follow soon. In recent observations, threat actors appear to be preparing for full-scale attacks. They aim to deploy malware or take control of vulnerable systems. Security professionals urge organizations to stay vigilant and act quickly to implement patches. Meanwhile, Volexity highlighted a more advanced exploitation, where a threat actor exploited this and other vulnerabilities to gain root access, steal credentials, and carry out elaborate post-exploitation actions.
