Index Engines Patents AI Innovation to Strengthen Ransomware Defens

Cyber Resilience leader Index Engines has announced a groundbreaking achievement coinciding with World AI Appreciation Day: the granting of a patent for its innovative AI process that automates threat collection, detection, and analysis to minimize ransomware impacts.

Developed within the company’s CyberSense Research Lab, this patented process automates the ingestion and behavioural analysis of ransomware variants in a secure environment. This continuous training of AI and machine learning models on real attack patterns ensures faster detection of data corruption, smarter recovery strategies, and stronger data integrity for organizations facing sophisticated cyber threats.

“Cyber resilience need more than reactive tools – it demands AI that is rigorously trained, tested, and proven in real-world conditions,” said Geoff Barrall, Chief Product Officer at Index Engines. “Our patented facility automatically downloads, detonates, and monitors live ransomware to continually enhance our models – an approach no simulation can match. This patent validates our unique method and underscores our leadership in cyber resilience.”

This achievement affirms Index Engines’ commitment to advancing AI applications for one of cybersecurity’s most critical challenges: enabling confident and rapid recovery to minimize the operational impact of ransomware attacks.

In today’s environment where ransomware is becoming more complex and stealthy, Index Engines distinguishes itself by investing deeply in studying how emerging threats corrupt data and interrupt business operations. According to Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG), their approach has demonstrated 99.99% effectiveness in detecting ransomware-induced data corruption. The company’s CyberSense Research Lab has also received strong recognition from analyst firm Futuriom.

“To truly defend against ransomware, you need to think like an adversary,” said Jim McGann, Chief Marketing Officer at Index Engines. “That involves understanding exactly how these threats operate rather than assuming their behaviours. At Index Engines, our patented process does just that. It’s like preparing for the Super Bowl – we analyze every move from real game tape to train effectively. While others rely on outdated playbooks, we’re already preparing for the next attack.”

World AI Appreciation Day, celebrated annually on July 16, recognizes the history, achievements, and future potential of AI technology across industries. In cybersecurity, AI plays a pivotal role in threat detection, containment, data scanning, and accelerating recovery processes.

Barrall added, “With the average cost of a data breach in the U.S. nearing $10 million, and public companies typically seeing a 3–5% drop in share price after disclosure, the financial justification for investing in cybersecurity is clear. For corporate IT, this isn’t just about reducing risk – it’s about financial stewardship. Legal costs, reputational damage, and recovery timelines can drive the true operational impact far beyond initial losses. Cybersecurity is not a discretionary spend; it’s a strategic necessity.”
