Experts like Steven Masada explained that this trend signifies a shift from isolated hacking efforts to a robust underground economy that supplies malicious tools and services on a large scale. Consequently, the operation not only facilitated numerous ransomware campaigns but also posed a broader threat to critical infrastructure, prompting Microsoft’s detailed account of the incident and its efforts to curb such malicious activities.
