Top Highlights
- Chainstack was breached after attackers entered a development environment on Oct. 26 and reached parts of production; access was cut off Oct. 31.
- Customer data was accessed, including names, organization details, emails, and password hashes. Node credentials may also be exposed, though access is unconfirmed.
- Customers should rotate node credentials and API keys, change reused passwords, and watch for phishing attempts.
- The incident appears linked to an AI-assisted attack campaign also tied to incidents at WorkOS, Chainalysis, and the Dutch Institute for Vulnerability Disclosure.
Intruder Reached Production Systems
Blockchain infrastructure provider Chainstack disclosed a breach on Nov. 3, 2026. The attacker entered a development environment on Oct. 26 through a third-party component, then reached parts of the company’s production systems. Chainstack detected the intrusion on Oct. 31 and cut off the attacker’s access that day.
The attacker accessed a database with organization names, account holders’ names, member email addresses, and password hashes. Hashes are not plain-text passwords, but criminals may still try to crack them. The attacker also reached systems that held node credentials. Chainstack said it has no evidence the attacker read those credentials, but it treats them as exposed.
Customers Urged to Secure Accounts
Chainstack advises customers to rotate node credentials and regenerate platform API keys. Customers should also change passwords, especially anywhere they reused the same one, and watch for phishing messages.
The company assessed that the breach may relate to a wider campaign using artificial intelligence to support cyberattacks. Other organizations, including WorkOS and Chainalysis, have reported incidents involving AI-driven techniques. However, the cases differ, and reports do not establish that every incident came from the same attacker.
AI tools can help companies build and manage digital services at scale. Yet attackers can also use them to move faster and target more organizations. As more people and businesses rely on connected platforms, basic steps—unique passwords, updated credentials, and careful checks of unexpected messages—can help protect the trust that makes those services useful.
