Quick Takeaways

  1. Enhanced Security Partnership: Marvell Technology’s LiquidSecurity HSMs are now integral to Microsoft Azure Cloud HSM, extending capabilities already used in Azure Key Vault.

  2. Dedicated Control and Compliance: Azure Cloud HSM offers dedicated, single-tenant clusters, providing customers control over key management while ensuring compliance with FIPS 140-3 Level 3 standards.

  3. Growing Market Trend: The HSM-as-a-service market is projected to grow at 8.5% annually through 2029, driven by increasing demand for secure cloud computing solutions.

  4. Innovative Cloud Solutions: Marvell’s PCIe-based LiquidSecurity devices efficiently manage cryptographic operations, reducing power usage and costs, while enabling easier access for industries requiring robust security.

Strengthening Cloud Security

Microsoft’s recent collaboration with Marvell Technology marks a significant development in cloud security. By integrating Marvell’s LiquidSecurity hardware security modules (HSMs) into its Azure Cloud HSM service, Microsoft enhances cryptographic protection and key management. This partnership builds upon Marvell’s existing technology in Azure Key Vault services. Customers now benefit from dedicated, single-tenant HSM clusters. These clusters offer direct control over cryptographic operations while maintaining strict security measures.

Moreover, the Azure Cloud HSM is certified at FIPS 140-3 Level 3. This certification ensures secure and encrypted connections via a private link to the customer’s virtual network. Companies increasingly demand such secure, compliant solutions. Analysts predict an 8.5% annual growth in the HSM-as-a-service market through 2029, driven by rising interest in confidential computing. As security concerns heighten, this growth shows the industry’s move toward more secure cloud environments.

Revolutionizing Accessibility and Efficiency

Traditionally, HSMs operated as physical, on-premises devices. However, Marvell’s LiquidSecurity technology shifts this paradigm. With its PCIe-based design, this technology optimizes HSM operations for cloud environments. The LiquidSecurity2 card can handle 100,000 encryption key pairs and perform over one million cryptographic operations per second. This efficiency allows providers to offer HSM services with lower power requirements and reduced hardware needs.

Additionally, customers can access these services through a subscription model. This approach lowers barriers for industries dependent on robust security measures, such as healthcare, finance, and digital identity services. By paving the way for widespread adoption, Microsoft and Marvell not only address current security demands but also contribute to a more secure future in the digital landscape.
